My mom gave each one of us kids a "Family Rules" subway art style ia JPEG format as a Christmas gift. My sister actually created it with her Photoshop program. My mom only wanted us to get the JPEG so we could choose how to display it in our homes, she also gave us a little money to help pay for the way we wanted it displayed.. Two of my sisters did theirs in a 16"x48" canvas wrap. My Mom and another sister did a 20"x30" photo and mod podged it onto a large 1" thick board, and another sister is actually going to do hers in vinyl. I liked the 20"x30" size so we bought 1"x 2" board, cut it down into 4 pieces and screwed the pieces together to make a frame, we also bought a 24"x 48" board and cut it down to 20" x 30".
Painted the sides, back, and edges black.
Then stapled the boards together. This isn't an electric staple gun, just an inexpensive basic one, so the staples wouldn't actually staple flush with the board (not enough power), so I used the hammer to flatten them. My almost 2 year old son didn't actually do any of the stapling, just happened to pick up the staple gun as I was taking a picture-which I quickly took back once the picture was taken. ;)
Using the techniques I found at The Sassy Pepper we mod podged the back of the picture. Mark even volunteered to help me, which was really nice because of how large the photo is.
Placed it on the board and then mod podged the front and sides.
Added a little grunge look.
Done!
This isn't where it is going to stay but we really wanted to put it up and see what it would look like and there happened to be nails already in the wall here.
And no, we still haven't taken down our vinyl Nerf gun target from Christmas. It is just too fun to play.
A $16 project, love it.
Costco Photo: $8.99
Wood: $7ish
Black Acrylic Paint: $1 (already had)
