I have done this kind of project before, but I still love being able to turn something ordinary into something unique. We have this mouse pad which we use for a large coaster that sits between our computers.
Also, I haven't realized what a Star Trek nut my husband is until lately as he has been watching it on Netflix often....so when I saw this fabric (at 50% off!) I knew I had to do something with it.
Boom. Fun, new, unique coaster.
The best part is that this took me maybe 10 minutes. Just used fusible web to attach the fabric to the coaster, then mod podge the edges to the back. 10 minutes to make, 15 minutes to dry. Done!
